More Than Football

Girls Teams

Wildcats (Free Sessions)

Age 5-11

Wildcats is non-competitive football for girls who want to give football a go for the very first time or want to play with other girls their own age. Most importantly, Wildcats is all about having loads of fun and meeting new amazing friends. Sessions focus on helping your child develop fundamental movement skills such as agility, balance, coordination, and speed. These skills are essential not only for football but for all sports.

Girls will have the opportunity to learn new football skills, make wonderful friendships, and enjoy themselves together. Each session begins with a team talk, where any new participants are introduced, and the activities for the session are explained.

Once that’s done, the fun begins! Football skills are integrated into themed games and activities. Some of the children's favourite themes include pirates, jungle animals, and superheroes. These fun themes also encourage your child's imagination and creativity. Sessions usually take place on a Sunday morning and last for around an hour and best of all, it's free to take part!

Foundation Stage

Age 5-8

We focus on developing body movement and fitness through basic, fun games. Our aim is to promote communication and social interaction skills in a safe and inclusive environment.

During this foundational stage, we provide children with basic football skills and techniques to help them build a secure and confident connection with the ball. We encourage them to experiment and make mistakes, fostering creativity and confidence. Our sessions are designed to be fun, short, and not too serious.

At this stage, we expect players to focus on their individual abilities rather than playing as a team. Each player is likely to chase the ball and may not pass, and as coaches, we do not discourage this behavior, as it is a natural part of their learning and development process.

We will begin to educate players about basic football terms, including positions, throw-ins, and penalties. Occasionally, we will arrange friendly matches with other teams or clubs, which will be non-competitive.

Age 9-11

At this age, we will focus on developing a greater sense of teamwork. We will concentrate on refining learned skills and improving technical abilities in different positions.

Our efforts will be directed towards enhancing mastery of the ball and helping each player understand how their unique abilities contribute to the team's success.

Youth Development Stage

Age 12-16

During this stage, the focus is on developing proficiency in key game phases: In Possession, Transition, and Out of Possession. Coaches will emphasize skill development, encouraging players to be creative under pressure, understand ball recovery strategies, and manage tempo effectively.

Players naturally start to adopt positions that suit their playing styles, learning the importance of teamwork over individual play. As competition increases, balancing player development with the desire to win becomes crucial.

Transitioning to 11-a-side games entails more fitness and commitment, often resulting in increased training frequency. Players may experience growth spurts, leading to temporary clumsiness and reduced technical ability. Hormonal changes can also impact concentration and spatial awareness, but these challenges are typically short-lived.
